Project Descriptiom

The Medina General Hospital is a modern healthcare facility designed from the ground up, incorporating lessons learned from past experiences with the client and multiple healthcare projects we have previously designed for them. The project entailed the development of an 8,000 m² building, carefully planned to accommodate all necessary spaces and activities required for a fully functional General Hospital. The design integrates essential medical services, advanced healthcare technology, and patient-centered spaces, ensuring a healing environment that optimizes both patient care and staff efficiency.

The hospital was thoughtfully designed to house a comprehensive range of medical services and support facilities, including:

  1. Basic Health Services:
    • Internal Medicine
    • General Surgery
    • Gynecology and Obstetrics
    • Pediatrics
    • Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with Resuscitation
    • Emergency Services
    • Radiology (CT, MRI, X-ray)
    • Biochemical, Hematological, Pathological, and Cytological Laboratory (300 m² reference laboratory)
    • Pharmacy
    • Sterilization Unit
  2. Support and Administrative Services:
    • Hospital Administration Offices
    • Patient Support and Amenities
    • Logistics and Maintenance Areas
  3. Specialized Medical Facilities:
    • Two fully equipped Surgery Rooms
    • ICU Unit
    • Recovery Unit
    • 24 Inpatient Beds

The architectural vision for Medina General Hospital is rooted in a transformative approach to healthcare design—shifting from cold, impersonal structures to compassionate, patient-centered spaces. This philosophy underscores the responsibility and privilege of architects to create environments that heal, uplift, and support those who are most vulnerable.

The design approach incorporates:

  • Patient-Centered Healing Environments: Spaces that promote psychological comfort and well-being.
  • Integration of Natural Elements: Maximizing daylight, green spaces, and nature-inspired interiors and exteriors.
  • Biophilic Design: Utilizing nature-inspired forms, patterns, and materials to enhance patient recovery, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Future-proofing the hospital for evolving healthcare needs.
  • Smart Technology and Efficiency: Implementing digital healthcare systems and automation.
  • Sustainability: Utilizing energy-efficient solutions, environmentally conscious materials, and sustainable construction techniques.

The project site presented a significant challenge due to the presence of underground water. To address this, a robust structural and drainage system was implemented, ensuring the stability and longevity of the hospital. Thoughtful site planning and engineering solutions were employed to mitigate water-related risks while maintaining optimal functionality and accessibility.

The result is a fully functional, modern General Hospital that serves as a benchmark for integrating function, aesthetics, and human-centered care. Medina General Hospital stands as a model for healthcare facilities that prioritize:

  • Enhanced patient well-being
  • Optimized staff workflow and efficiency
  • Smart and sustainable design
  • Resilient, future-ready medical infrastructure

By embracing innovation and empathy in design, Medina General Hospital embodies a forward-thinking healthcare environment that aligns with the highest standards of modern medical practice.
